From Earth Observation to Earth Intelligence

From October 8 to 10, 2024 the city of Krakow was the stage for one of the most important events of the year in Earth Observation: the EuroGEO Workshop 2024. This annual gathering brought together experts from across Europe to discuss the latest innovations in technological advancements and urban sustainability. The event aimed to explore new ways to tackle both global and national challenges by leveraging advanced technologies, transitioning from Earth Observation to Earth Intelligence. This shift is embodied in the new ‘post-2025’ work program adopted at the GEO level, which focuses on equity and global access to information. The goal is to bridge information gaps and make data more useful in addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges.

At the core of EuroGEO Workshop 2024, participants explored strategies to coordinate, combine, and cooperate among research, industry, and government institutions. The event emphasized the importance of creating synergies between these different sectors to fully harness the potential of Earth Observation technologies. Thanks to international collaboration, EuroGEO has helped consolidate European efforts to improve the resilience of cities and their ability to adapt to climate change.

Urban Action Group: building bridges between GEO and the EU

Luciano Concezzi, Head of R&D at TeamDev, participated as a member of the GEO Resilient Cities and Human Settlement Working Group, contributing to discussions on the importance of developing innovative solutions to make cities more resilient and sustainable. This working group focuses on how Earth Observation technologies can be used to address the problems related to urbanization and climate change.

During the EuroGEO Workshop 2024, Luciano brought his expertise to the Urban Action Working Group. This group works to build connections between GEO initiatives and those of the European Union, such as the EU Mission for Cities and the EU Climate Missions, with the support of the IPCC Special Report on Cities and Climate Change.

An ongoing commitment to innovation and sustainability

TeamDev’s participation in EuroGEO 2024 has strengthened the company’s commitment to technological innovation and the development of sustainable solutions. The event provided an opportunity to share experiences and strategies with experts from around the world, highlighting collaboration and the use of advanced technologies as key elements for the future of European cities.
